Scholarships

Colton D. Harper Memorial Scholarship:  must be a son/daughter of an Eastern Contractors Association, Inc.employee (list of members are attached to the application) and applicants must be entering or enrolled in a construction-related curriculum as a full-time student at an accredited 2/4 year college/university.  Fields of study include, but are not limed to:  construction technology, project management, architecture, engineering, and project/construction management.  Application is available in Guidance.  Deadline to apply is July 1, 2019.

Class of 2015 Scholarship:  for seniors who must be attending a 2yr/4yr college/university in the Fall of 2019.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 29, 2019.

Columbia County Deputy Sheriff's Benevolent Association Scholarship:  for a senior who will be attending an accredited college in the fall, be above average in academics, express/demonstrate an interest in community/public service, anticipate pursuing a career in law enforcement, public service, or related field.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 17, 2019.  

Coach Frank J. Hamblet Award:  must have a B (85 or greater) GPA, do extracurricular activities/community service, and participated in a Varsity sport.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 17, 2019.

Frances T. Soule Scholarship:  for a graduating senior interested in furthering his/her education in the Arts, particularly in the area of Drawing & Painting at the college level.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 21, 2019.  

The Stanya S. Jimenez Memorial Scholarship:  for any senior who plans to attend a 2 or 4 year college/university in the Fall of 2019, has demonstrated determination and overcome great hardship to defy expectations during their school career.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 20, 2019.  

American Society of Civil Engineers Mohawk-Hudson Section:  for a graduating senior who intends to enroll in an educational institution majoring in an ABET accredited curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in the field of Civil Engineering.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline:  must be postmarked by May 3, 2019.  

Paul Jorgensen Scholarship:  must demonstrate exemplary achievement in the fields of mathematics and science.  Application in Guidance.  Deadline is May 10, 2019.

Neil Howard Scholarship:  ANY senior is eligible.  Application in Guidance.  Deadline is May 10, 2019.

Hudson Teachers' Association Community Service Award:  for a graduating senior who has shown evidence of outstanding achievement, leadership, and service in community activities.  Application in Guidance.  Deadline is May 3, 2019.

Hudson Teachers' Association Scholarship:  any senior is eligible who plans to pursue a career in education.  Application in Guidance.  Deadline is May 3, 2019.

Joe Maben Memorial Scholarship:  must have played at least 1 Varsity sport for 2 seasons for Hudson High School.  Application in Guidance.  Deadline is May 15, 2019.

The Team Smith Movement Scholarship:  must be a legal permanent resident of Columbia County, must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 (80 >), must be accepted and attending college or trade school in the Fall, and must have completed 20 hours of community service.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is May 20, 2019.

Student Council Scholarship:  ANY senior is eligible who will be attending college in the Fall.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 17, 2019.

Tom Lasher Memorial Award:  must have participated in Little League AND high school baseball/softball and displayed service toward community/school during high school.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 6, 2019.

2019 CHW Scholarship Fund:  for students who live in "affordable housing" - meaning multi-family residential housing in NYS financed by Federal, State, or local subsidies.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline:  must be postmarked by June 1, 2019.

Greenport Garden Club/General Roll Leaf Scholarship:  must be pursuing a course of study in:  Agriculture, Agronomy, Arboriculture, Botany, Ecology, Environment, Fish/Wildlife, Floral Design, Floriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Hydroponics, Land Management, Landscape Design, Natural Resources, or Resource Conservation.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is April 15, 2019.

SDL & GHS Scholarship for Health Sciences:  must have a 2.5 (80 >) overall GPA and must be pursuing a course of study in Health Sciences in the Fall of 2019 at either a SUNY or CUNY college.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 17, 2019.

Columbia Greene Board of REALTORS Scholarship:  must be attending Columbia Greene Community College after graduation (Fall of 2019).  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 17, 2019.  

Dick Nelson Outdoor Sports Journalism Scholarship:  must be a resident of Columbia County, have been accepted by a college/university and it MUST be submitted with application, and be active in outdoor sports program with a goal of becoming a sports writer, with emphasis on outdoor sports, such as hunting and fishing.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is April 29, 2019.  

Dorothy E. Simon Scholarship:  ANY senior is eligible.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 1, 2019.  

COARC Kathelyn Caswell Memorial Scholarship:  must be residents of Columbia County or a child of a COARC employee, been accepted and matriculated in an undergraduate college-level program of study leading to a career-preparation relevant to work with the disabilied (e.g. rehabilitation counselor, special education teacher, any allied field).  Application is available in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is April 30, 2019.  

Columbia County Association of Town Superintendents (CCATS):  must be a resident of Columbia County at least 2 years prior to graduation, must have been accepted by a trade or vocational school, 2/4 year college/university, accredited community college or other higher educational institution, and preference will be given to students pursing careers that are in line with public works (ex:  public water/sewage, mechanics, engineers, trash pick up, maintaining cemeteries/parks, maintaining city/town/county infrastructure, etc).  Applications available in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is April 18, 2019.    

The Cukerstein Family Scholarship:  must have earned a Varsity letter in athletics and must have shown an interest in history & politics.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 1, 2019.  

Willilam Parker Ames Scholastic Award:  must have 6 months of HCSD music and have 4 academic years at HCSD  Application in Guidance.  Deadline is May 17, 2019.  

Upstage Productions Inc. Senior Performing Arts Award:  must have demonstrated an appreciation for the performing arts and displayed service toward school and community during high school.  It is intended for the student's future endeavors in the performing arts.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is April 22, 2019.  

Skip Harkowa Scholarship Award:  must be a senior in high school, under the age of 20 before May 7, 2019, be a resident of Columbia County, been accepted at a college/university for the Fall of 2019 and confirmation MUST accompany the application, and be active in environmental conservation programs and/or be an active hunter, fisherman, trapper, of conservation, forestry, wildlife management, etc.  Application in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is April 30, 2019.  

Rashad Barksdale "It's OK to Dream" Scholarship:  must be planning to attend a 2yr/4yr college/university in the Fall of 2019 and have a "C" 75> GPA.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 1, 2019.  

Operation Unite Scholarships  application available in Guidance.  Deadline is April 1, 2019.
Academic Excellence Award:  outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated service towards school/community OR Community Service Award:  demonstrated outstanding "Acts of Kindness" towards their community.

Capital District Counseling Association Scholarship:  must have a minimum "B" 85 > GPA, must be from the Capital Region, and must plan to attend a Capital Region college/university.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is April 29, 2019 (must be postmarked NO LATER THAN May 1, 2019).

The 2019 First Generation Scholarship:  must be from the Capital Region, must plan to attend a Capital Region college/universtiy, and neither of the applicant's parents have received a college degree.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is April 29, 2019 (must be postmarked NO LATER THAN May 1, 2019).

Daniel P. Barrett Memorial Scholarship:  pursuing a career in accounting, business, criminal justice, or fire fighter (paid not a volunteer).  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 10, 2019.  

Hudson High Alumni Scholarship:  ANY senior eligible.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 3, 2019.

William B. Wrigley III Scholarship:  must be furthering education in the field of Law Enforcement or Military.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 15, 2019.

George W. Oliver Jr. Scholarship:  must be pursuing a career in Law Enforcement.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 15, 2019.

The Hudson Literacy Fund, Inc Hudson Children's Book Festival Scholarship:  must attend and help at the Hudson Literacy Fund fundraiser (2019) or attend and help at the Hudson Children's Book Festival (2019).  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline is May 22, 2019.

Paul and Maria Morra Scholarship:  for high school seniors who will be attending college or trade school in the fall after graduation, resident of Columbia or Greene County, and pursuing further academic work in the field of horticulture, agriculture, forestry, or natural resources.  Application available in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is March 20 (as they must receive it by March 25).    

The Catskill Glee Club Nelson G. Burhans Memorial Scholarship:  for a graduating senior who will attend a 4 year college/university, including schools and conservatories of music for the 2019-20 school year, who demonstrates a passion for the pursuit of excellence in music, has been an active participant in his/her high school music program, and is committed to furthering their studies in music at the college level and plans on a career in vocal music education or vocal performance.  Applications are available in Guidance.  Deadline:  must be postmarked or sent electronically by April 11, 2019.

Andrew J. Hart Memorial Firematic Scholarship Award:  for any high school senior but the individual must be demonstrating firematic community service on a junior or adult level in the Columbia County area and have future commitment firematic goals in mind.  Applications are available in Guidance.  Deadline to Guidance is April 18, 2019 (due to Spring Recess).

Hoffman Car Wash/Jiffy Lube Scholarship:  must be an employee of either Hoffman Car Wash or Jiffy Lube with at least 6 months of service and a minimum of 312 hours of time prior to deadline date, must be enrolled in a full-time/part-time 2/4 year college/university/on-line study at accredited institutions/trade school, and must have a 2.5 GPA (80>).  Applications are available in Guidance.  Deadline is March 29, 2019.

Deborah Simonsmeier Memorial Scholarship:  have applied for, if eligible, the NYS Volunteer Recruitment Services Scholarship, live, work and/or volunteer in Columbia County, and looking to further their education in Emergency Services (preference to EMS).  Applications available in Guidance.  Deadline to apply is July 1, 2019.  

2019 Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarship:  (high school seniors who apply fo rthe Irving Flaumenbaum Scholarship are automatically in the running for the Pearl Insurance and MetLife Insurance Company Scholarships).  for a graduating high school senior whose parent is a CSEA/Local 1000 member.  Applications available in Guidance.  Deadline to apply is April 15, 2019.  

AFDSNY Edward "Ned" Carter Scholarship:  for high school seniors who have an association with a fire department or fire district that is a member of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York who's dues are currently paid up for the year, who shall be continuing their education at either a 2 or 4 year institution, and who will be pursuing a community service related career which will include but not limited to the fire service, nursing, social work, health related services, teaching, paramedic, etc.  Applications are available in Guidance.    Deadline:  must be postmarked no later than the LAST SATURDAY IN FEBRUARY

Micah 6:8 Student Award:  for a graduating senior who must be a member of a faith community which is part of the Hudson Interfaith Council (Shiloh, State Streeet AME Zion, St. Mary's, Rock Solid, First Presbyterian, Christ Church Episcopal, Trinity United Methodist, 1st Reformed, Overcomers Ministry, or Endless Love Temple).  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline to apply is Tuesday, January 8, 2019.    

2019 Agricultural Youth Scholarships:  for high school seniors who will continue their education to prepare for a career in some way connected to the diverse agricultural industry, live or work on a farm or be involved with agriculture via any avenue, and be a Family Farm Bureau membership or Student Farm Bureau membership is required and may accompany application.  Applications are available in Guidance.  Deadline:  must be postmarked by March 1, 2019.  

2019 Official Excellence in Nursing Scholarship:  for high school seniors who reside in either Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster, or Westchester County who plan to pursue a career in nursing.  Applications available in the Guidance Department.  Deadline:  must be postmarked by February 8, 2019.

Deboarh Simonsmeier Memorial Scholarship: criteria - 1) have applied for, if eligible, the NYS Volunteer Recruitment Services Scholarship, 2) live, work and/or volunteer in Columbia County, and 3) looking to further their education in Emergency Services (preference to EMS).  To apply go to www.valatierescue.org then go to Your Dollars and Scholarship.  Deadline to apply is July 1, 2019.  

National Co-Op Scholarship Program:  for high school seniors who are applying to any of the following colleges/universities:  Clarkson University, Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Merrimack College, Rochester Institute of Technology, State University of Oswego, The University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, or Wentworth Institute of Technolog, and have a GPA of 3.5 or better.  To apply you can either go on-line at www.waceinc.org or paper application is available in Guidance.  Deadlines vary for each college/university anywhere from Novmeber 1, 2018-March 1, 2019.

 

Online Scholarships

Skilled Trades Scholarship:  students (18 years or older) in vocational/technical program or students accepted for enrollment in trade school or college-level trade programs in the following fields:  Carpentry, Electrial, HVAC, or Plumbing.  To apply go to thruway.ny.gov/scholarship.  Deadline is May 31, 2019.

The Petroske, Riezenman, & Meyers Divorce Scholarship:  this scholarship is open nationwide to those who will be attending college during the Spring semester 2020, special consideration will be given to an undergraduate who is interested in pursuing a career in law  but is also open to current high school seniors who will attending college in the Spring of 2020.  Must have a 3.0 GPA (83 >) and have been affected by divorce and have experience with family law in their personal lives and families.  To apply go to:  https://www.petroskelaw.com/long-island-divorce-attorney/ and scroll down to the scholarship.  Deadline is December 31, 2019.

OutHudson Scholarship Application:  must be a senior at a high school in Columbia County, must be accepted into an institution of higher education with the intention to enroll in Fall 2019, and must identify as LGBTQ or an LGBTQ ally.  To apply go to  https://forms.gle/w4NKShHoP7KyeUc98.  Deadline is June 30, 2019.  

Uel Wade Music Scholarship:  open to any teenage high-school musician (instrumentalist or singer) who resides in Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer County or the Capital District in NY, or Berkshire County in Massachusetts.  To apply go to www.uelwade.org.  Deadline to apply is April 15, 2019.  

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation Scholarships:  to apply go to berkshiretaconic.org/scholarships, then go to search for scholarships by school district, and then choose Hudson City School District.  Deadline to apply is March 15, 2019.

The Recovery Village Health Care Scholarship:  for a graduating senior pursuing a health-related degree program who have personally affected by addiction.  To apply go to www.therecoveryvillage.com/scholarships.  Deadline to apply is June 30, 2019,  

Farm Credit East Scholarship:  student must have a permanent address within Farm Credit East's territory and must be pursuing post high school education (full-time) in fall 2019 leading to a career in agriculture, commercial fishing or the forest products industry.  To apply go to //FarmCreditEast.com/Scholarship.  Deadline to apply is April 2, 2019.  

Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region:  listed below are a few of the scholarships available.  To apply go to www.cfgcr.org/scholarships.  Deadline to apply is March 2019.

Bebu Scholarship ($2,900): Established to provide scholarships for minority or economically disadvantaged students planning to attend SUNY Adirondack. The student must be academically high-achieving and be able to prove financial need. Due date: March 19, 2019.

Michael J. Campbell Memorial Scholarship ($1,600): This award is intended for a graduating senior enrolled in a High School Vocational Education Program in Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie Warren and Washington County of New York State OR a freshman already enrolled in a college or university in pursuit of an Associate’s Degree in Construction Technology, Building Construction/Building Trades, Carpentry AAS or AOS, Construction Technology (with carpentry minor), or Construction Technology/Building Construction. Due date: March 19, 2019.

The Unified Military Affairs Council (UMAC) Scholarship (awards of $1,000 each available): For students whose parent(s) serve at one of the following military installations: Stratton Air National Guard Base; Navy Operational Support Center Glenville; Naval Support Activity Saratoga; Nuclear Power Training Unit Ballston Spa; Watervliet Arsenal; or Joint Force Headquarters Latham. Applicants must be entering a technical/trade school or a two or four year college or university in the Fall of 2019. Due date: March 19, 2019.

The MVP Health Care Scholarship ($1,000): One award of $1000 For a graduating senior from a Greater Capital Region high school planning to enter a 2 or 4 year college or university to pursue a degree in a wellness-related field such as (but not limited to) nursing or medicine, nutrition, physical therapy, occupational therapy, sports or fitness. Due date: March 19, 2019.

Anthony and Josephine DeFazio Culinary Scholarship – ($500) For a graduating senior in the Culinary Arts program at Questar III planning to continue his or her education in the Culinary Arts. Due date: March 19, 2019.

Down Syndrome – Aim High Scholarship ($2,100): To benefit students who will assist those with Down Syndrome by pursuing education and a career in the field of special education or speech, physical, or occupational therapy. Due date: March 19, 2019.

Peter Gerkman Jr. Memorial Scholarship ($1,000): This scholarship will be awarded to a greater Capital Region high school senior who participated in the high school varsity-level football program. The student must plan to attend an accredited trade school, college or university (located in the United States) in pursuit of a degree or vocational certification. Due date: March 19, 2019.

Ruth Goldstein Memorial Music Scholarship ($500): For a graduating senior from a Capital Region high school who will continue on to study music education or music performance. Special consideration will be given to students whose major instrument is of the woodwind family, piano students who accompany others, or students who demonstrate financial need. Due date: March 19, 2019.

Herbert K. and Isabel C. Liebich Scholarships ($9,000 for two-year scholarships; $25,000 for four-year scholarship): Established to honor the founders of Albany Frosted Foods, one of the original companies to form Sysco Corporation, by awarding a scholarship each year to the children of employees or retirees of Sysco Foods of New York, Inc.. Applications are available each spring from any of the Sysco Foods of New York, Inc. personnel offices. Scholarships are awarded each year to one senior planning to attend a four-year college or university and to two seniors planning to attend a two-year junior college. Due date: March 19, 2019.

Gene Robb Journalism Scholarship (up to $4,200): Established to recognize the many significant contributions that Gene Robb, former publisher of the Times Union, made to the field of journalism. The student must have a clearly demonstrated interest in journalism and provide samples of journalistic work. Personal recommendations are required. Due date: March 10, 2019.

New York Water Environment Association Scholarships:  scholarships available for students pursuing a professional career in the environmental field.  To apply go to www.nywea.org.  Deadline to apply is February 28, 2019.

SEFCU Scholarships:  applicants must be the primary member on a SEFCU account and be a high school senior.  To request an application packet, email marketing@sefcu.com.  Deadline is January 4, 2019.  

Berkshire Bank Foundation Scholarship:  for high school seniors in pursuit of an undergraduate degree, be a US citizen, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (83 >), gross family annual income under $100,000 or gross individual income under $50,000, and plan on attending a 2 or 4 year college or technical school.  Apply on-line at www.berkshirebank.com/scholarships.  Deadline to apply is January 31, 2019.

The Love of Running Scholarship:  for high school seniors who reside in Columbia County and have participated for at least 2 years in Cross Country or Track & Field.  To apply go to www.seansrun.com/sch1.htm.  Deadline to apply is December 1, 2018.

The Section II Good Sport Scholarship:  for high school seniors who particpated in the State Cross Country meet and were selected by Section II coaches as the Good Sportmanship Award Winner.  To apply go to www.seansrun.com/sch1.htm.  Deadline to apply is December 1, 2018.

2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards:  recognizes students in high school who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.  To apply go to spirit.prudential.com or nassp.org/spiritDeadline to apply is November 6, 2018.

Tradition of Caring Mortuary Science Scholarship Program:  for high school seniors who intend to enroll in a mortuary science program at an institution accredited with the ABFSE, have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and be a US Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the US.  To apply go to www.NFSGI.com/scholarshipDeadline to apply is October 26, 2018.

Seton Hall's Pirates Pitch Competition:  for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Submit an original business idea that in 350 words or less, describes an innovative product or service that you would like to create or have already created.  To apply go to www.shu.edu/go/HSPitchDeadline to apply is October 17, 2018.

Horation Alger Scholarship:  for high school seniors who will be enrolling in college in the Fall of 2019, exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the US, demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower), be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, hold a minimum GPA of 2.0, and be a US Citizen.  To apply go to scholars.horatioalger.orgDeadline to apply is October 25, 2018.

Elks National Foundatin Scholarships:   must be a child or grandchild of an Elks member.  TThere are numerous scholarships.  To apply go to enf.elks.orgDeadline to apply varies for each scholarship (anywhere from November 15, 2018-February 1, 2019).
