EARLY DISMISSAL TUES 9/26/17

Due to mechanical issues and an unusually high heat index in our schools, we will dismiss early tomorrow, Tues., 9/26/17. Dismissal will begin at JLE at 11:15 AM and all other buildings will begin dismissing at 11:30 AM. Lunch will not be served and there will be no PM Questar, Bard or PM UPK programs. The tutoring center will be closed. Please note that the Board meeting scheduled for 6:30 PM will be held as planned.

Closing & Opening Ceremonies for Athletic Fields

upcoming events post-it noteOn Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. there will be a celebratory Closing Ceremony at Barrett Field (behind M.C. Smith Intermediate School) followed by the annual homecoming bonfire. *All former Bluehawk athletes and coaches, regardless of what sport(s) you played/coached at Hudson, are invited to join us and be recognized during the Closing Ceremony (no individual invitations have been or will be sent).*

The Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new track/athletic field will occur at 6:30 p.m. the next day, September 28, 2017, at the new Bluehawk Sports Complex behind Hudson Jr./Sr. High School. Activities will include: free food, mascot appearance, first lap around the new track, music (including live performances by HCSD musical groups), student races and fireworks.


CMH Dental Van Returns for 2017-18 School Year

The Dental Van from Columbia Memorial Hospital is returning to JLE! With a completed and signed consent form, sent home from the school, your child can be seen for dental services on the mobile dental van. Services include:

  • Dental exam and digital x-rays
  • Cleaning and flouride treatments
  • Dental sealants
  • Fillings and simple tooth extractions

Each visit is about 20-30 minutes and a report will be sent home with your child after each visit. Participating children will also receive a gift bag with toothpaste, toothbrush and other products.

A consent form will be sent home from school. You complete the conesnt form, CMH provides the care! If your child is covered by insurance, the insurance company will be billed (simply include information on consent form), however no insurance is required for your child to participate. Big Smiles & Backpacks

Students smile after receiving balloons and free backpacks filled with school supplies

On Tuesday, August 16th, over 250 John L. Edwards children brought their smiles and parents to the annual Essendant Corporation Backpack Program.

At this event, the children were given brand new backpacks filled markers, notebooks, paper, pencils and erasers to begin the the new school year ready and equipped to go! Every child received a book bag and a balloon to start their year off with fun and supplies.

On behalf of the JLE Family, Mr. Spicer would like to thank Mr. Dean Gifford, Mrs. Naheel Harrison and all the wonderful volunteers from the Essendant Corporation for their love and support of our children.

Collecting items for Squeaky Clean Kids

cartoon kids getting cleanThe Hudson City School District is partnering with Columbia Opportunities, Inc. (COI), their Hudson Family Literacy Program, and the NYS Community Action Angels to collect personal hygiene supplies for area preschool and school age children so they will stay healthy, self-confident and have the best chance for personal and school success. The goal is to collect at least 2500 personal hygiene items for children enrolled in COI programs, the Hudson City School District, and the Taconic Hills Backpack Program. Read more here

The project objective is to collect donations of shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other personal care items to discreetly distribute to low income children. Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Columbia Opportunities, Inc.  540 Columbia Street, Hudson

At a parent workshop this week, Mrs. Sweet and Mrs. Barnes tutored the JLE 2nd Grade parents in understanding second grade reading and math curriculum and how to support their children. Our parents came with many questions and left with a much better understanding of the work and skills their second graders will need to become our next class of third graders.
