Students in the Hudson Jr. High Afterschool Program (ASP) recently traveled to Bard College to spend a day with the Bard College Men’s Basketball team, take a tour of the campus and eat in the student dining hall.

Yonah Greenstein, a sophomore and member of the basketball team at Bard College, has been volunteering his time with the Jr. High ASP since the beginning of the school year.

Yonah travels to Hudson Jr. High School twice a week to help students become better basketball players and learn the rules of the game. Yonah believes that students can use the core values associated with being a good basketball player in their every day lives.

“It takes motivation, leadership, dedication and passion to be a good basketball player,” says Greenstein. “These are values that are important in all aspects of life. I am teaching these students about the game of basketball but, more importantly I think I am helping them develop skills and values they can use throughout life.”

ASP Director Kathleen Clark is grateful for Jonah’s willingness to spend time with students from Hudson Jr. High. “This field trip and all the time Jonah spends with our students is a great opportunity for them to discover what opportunities exist after high school graduation,” states Clark. “We are lucky to have such a dedicated volunteer for the program.”

Yonah looks forward to working with the ASP again next year and would like to thank Paul Marienthal, Susanna Armbruster, teammates Jeremy Arnstein and Angelica Glover, the Bard Men’s Basketball team and the TLS Office at Bard College for helping him in this endeavor.
